The ACRL/NY Mentoring Program is excited to welcome applications for the 2026/2027 academic year. Applications are accepted from July 9, 2026 to August 7, 2026. To learn more about the Mentoring Program, see the program's description at https://acrlny.org/mentoring-program.
Please complete this form if you are interested in participating as a mentor. Mentors are library workers who offer significant experience (5+ years) and/or a knowledge base in specific areas of librarianship (e.g., instruction, research and writing for publication, web design, management, subject expertise). Most importantly, mentors are enthusiastic about sharing their knowledge to benefit someone new to the profession or seeking a job. This form is open to ACRL/NY members and non-members, but mentors must be ACRL/NY members upon acceptance into the program.
A mentor is someone who:
- Openly shares their professional experiences as they relate to areas of the mentee’s interests;
- Carefully listens and offers advice and encouragement;
- Assists with career development, exploration, and advancement, including specialized areas as applicable (e.g. guidance in changing library career tracks, publishing and presenting, working in a specific role or library setting, etc.).
Mentor expectations and opportunities:
- Nine-month commitment (Sept. 2026-June 2027)
- Monthly email, in-person, or virtual check-ins with your mentee (with monthly prompts sent by the Program Coordinators)
- Attend a virtual mentor welcome session for support and to meet other mentors
- Opportunity for ACRL/NY Symposium in-person meet-up in December (optional)
- Membership with ACRL/NY upon acceptance into the program (mentors need not be based in the New York area)
