Volunteer with ACRL/NY

ACRL/NY, a dynamic organization centered in the New York City area, is actively seeking passionate individuals to contribute to our vibrant community. Whether you are engaged in academic or research library work or a recent library school graduate or student looking to enhance your professional engagement, we have three exciting volunteer opportunities available for you:

Symposium Planning Committee Members

Join a team of 20-25 volunteers led by an enthusiastic and experienced Chair in planning and producing the annual ACRL/NY Symposium, scheduled for Friday, December 6, 2024. From developing a theme and program to handling marketing, registration, logistics, and the scholarship program, there’s a role for everyone. Meetings are held monthly, hybrid via Zoom and in-person gatherings at the Fordham Lincoln Center Campus. It is expected that SPC members will attend and support the symposium in person on the day of the event.

Professional Development Committee Members

The Professional Development Committee (PDC) is looking for six dedicated volunteers to help plan and execute at least three events in 2024 focused on the professional development of our members. Members will collaborate to assess needs, brainstorm event ideas, recruit facilitators, and assist with logistics. Meetings will be conducted via various modalities at the convenience of PDC members.

Communications Committee Working Group Members

In its pilot year, the Communications Committee (CC) is tasked with overseeing the redesign of ACRL/NY’s communications platforms and processes via four subcommittees: website, volunteer recruitment, external, and internal communications. Collaborating closely with key roles, committee members will offer guidance to the Symposium Planning Committee (SPC), Professional Development Committee (PDC), and Discussion Group (DG) leaders. As members become familiar with the organization, they will gradually contribute to efficiency vital for ACRL/NY’s success. Meetings will be scheduled according to the convenience of CC members. CC members may be asked to attend events hosted by the other committees and/or discussion groups.

Benefits of Volunteering

Gain collaborative experience, expand your professional network, and receive a letter documenting your service for tenure or promotion, if applicable to your position. Please note that to join any of the above committees, one must be a member of ACRL/NY.

We look forward to hearing from you!
