New Ideas for Mid-Career Librarians: Three Events from METRO and ACRL/NY

METRO and ACRL/NY have partnered for three events to address the unique needs of mid-career librarians. Perfect for academic librarians who have five or more years of experience, these workshops promise support, advice, and ideas to take with you as you work toward the next stage in your career.

On Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at 1pm, Columbia University Librarian Jim Neal will join us at METRO for a talk on leading from the middle of an organization, retaining passion for one’s career, and mentoring as a means of re-energizing while imparting knowledge to colleagues. As head of one of New Yorkas largest academic libraries, Dr. Neal is poised to provide excellent advice on managing relationships with supervisors and other library leaders. Registration for this event is open now.

A panel of librarians who have successfully navigated the tenure process will impart their wisdom at a panel discussion on Monday, March 3, 2014 at 11am, also at METRO. This event is designed for those who are about to engage in the tenure process, those who have survived the process, and anyone in between. This session will be highly interactive; participants are encouraged to bring their questions and stories from their own experience achieving tenure. Registration for this event is open now.

On Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at 1pm, join us at METRO to hear about several assessment projects taking place in area academic libraries. Considered by many to be the next frontier in academic librarianship, assessment projects are a great way to uncover and resolve challenges your user base might face. Developing skills in this area provides yet another way to stay invested in your organization and foster relationships that will serve you well throughout your career. Registration for this event is open now.

Please register for each of these sessions individually. Each will be held at METRO (57 East 11th Street, just south of Union Square). Refreshments will be provided. We look forward to seeing you at one or all of these sessions!
