The Sarah Lawrence College Library invites applications for two professional Research and Instruction Librarians in support of our unique model of education for our highly motivated population of students. Reporting to the Head of Research Services, the candidates must have a strong commitment to public service and enjoy providing both personalized and group library instruction to undergraduate and graduate students in a small, innovative and creative academic library setting.

Working within the Research Services Department, the candidates will participate in the research and instruction programs we provide for students and faculty. These programs include, but are not limited to: provision of information literacy instruction to classes and groups; provision of in-depth research help during individual research consultations; creation of research guides and instructional materials; provision of general public reference assistance at the Information Desk. The ideal candidate will also have experience with digital humanities tools, support, and instruction.

Responsibilities

  • Provide in-depth research assistance to undergraduate and graduate students across all disciplines in the curriculum
  • Provide information literacy instruction sessions
  • Develop and lead workshops on research topics
  • Collaborate on research guides
  • Manage the library’s social media presence
  • Support digital humanities initiatives
  • Participate in rotation at the Information Desk

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s and MLIS/MLS (or equivalent)
  • Demonstrable experience with reference, library instruction, and digital humanities
  • Two years of experience working in an academic library setting
  • Commitment to public service
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize, and exercise initiative and sound judgment
  • Creativity, flexibility, and the ability to work cooperatively in a team-based, user-centered environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Must be detailed-oriented, congenial, patient, and reliable

Salary: $67,000

Position Type: Full Time
