The State University of New York at Old Westbury seeks a collaborative, innovative, and service-oriented individual for the Reference and Instruction Librarian position. As a member of the Department, the Reference and Instruction Librarian will have opportunities to collaborate within the library and across campus to support student success and provide responsive reference and instruction services to the Old Westbury community. This includes opportunities to support and create information literacy learning modules and develop workshops. This role supports student success by providing information literacy instruction and continuously adapting and improving information literacy efforts. Early career librarians and/or recent MLIS graduates are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities: Design and deliver classroom and online information literacy instruction for various disciplines and collaborate with faculty to integrate information literacy into courses. This is a full-time, twelve (12) month tenure-track position. As a full-time, tenure-track faculty member, the librarian is expected to be a committed member of the library department, engage in service, participate in faculty governance, and provide service to the college, as outlined in the Faculty Bylaws. Other duties may be assigned, and some evenings and weekends are required. The successful candidate will be cooperative, confident, customer-centered, and eager to engage with libraries’ changing services and methods. In addition, this position will be expected to display a demonstrated potential for excellence in librarianship, continuing education and service, commitment to undergraduate and graduate education, and possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students and colleagues. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated experience in the delivery of library instruction or teaching experience at the secondary or college level. Required Qualifications: An ALA-accredited Master of Library Science or Master of Library Information Science degree. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with instruction and reference services in an academic library setting.
