ACRL/NY Information Literacy/Instruction Discussion Group Meeting October 12, 2018

Media literacy in the 21st century: What are effective approaches for library instruction?

What are some of the best practices to approach teaching media literacy in the 21st century? What strategies can be implemented that will help students dissect and access information effectively?

In recent times, mass media have sometimes blurred the lines reporting news information perceived to be facts and coined fake news. The Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education provides guidance on teaching information literacy in the classroom. For this discussion, attendees will engage in an open discussion to share ideas and explore the threshold concepts around teaching media literacy.
