Social Sciences and Government Information Librarian -- Syracuse, NY

The Syracuse University Libraries Department of Research and Scholarship (DRS) invites applications for the role of Social Sciences and Government Information Librarian. This position supports the research, teaching, and learning needs of users in anthropology, sociology, and economics at Syracuse University and assists all campus users in locating information produced by government entities for use in their research areas.

Responsibilities include: serving as the liaison to the departments of anthropology, sociology, and economics; providing subject-specific reference and research consultations; designing and delivering instruction sessions and workshops for undergraduate and graduate students; selecting subject-specific collection materials; and developing collections and research services for government information such as datasets, legislation, regulations, and other documents.

The Social Sciences and Government Information Librarian will be a part of the Collections Team within DRS, working closely with Collection Development and Analysis Librarians to support library-wide collection promotion and collection analysis projects. Activities will include: curating topical book displays; creating blog posts and other collection-specific marketing materials; reviewing collections-related user feedback; and conducting detailed reviews of print collections in government information and other subjects.

This position is based in Syracuse, NY and requires regular on-campus engagement to support students and collaborate with colleagues. We welcome candidates with a range of experience and qualifications who are interested in supporting research, instruction, and collection development in a collaborative academic environment. While prior familiarity with government information and structure is helpful, we can provide support for successful applicants to gain more in-depth knowledge and grow into this professional area.

The successful candidate will be appointed at Assistant Librarian, Senior Assistant Librarian, or Associate Librarian rank depending on experience. Salary range: $62,400 – $71,500.
