Princeton University Library seeks a highly skilled, innovative leader for the Content Access (CA) Department. Reporting directly to the Associate University Librarian for Collections & Access Services (CAS), the Assistant Director serves on the Senior Management Team of the whole CAS Division, presenting a unique opportunity for career growth. The successful candidate will help lead a strategic rethinking of collection access, management, and fulfillment functions, operations, workflows, staffing and supervision arrangements, and the user experience of finding and accessing content, central to the overarching mission of supporting research and instruction at Princeton University and its global engagement. Responsibilities The primary focus of this position is on optimizing seamless access to a vast universe of locally-owned and shared-access print, digital and digitized library resources, and enhancing the Library’s performance in fulfilling all its patrons’ content needs – for individual learning, research, or teaching. In addition, this position oversees the management of physical collections and spearheads operations to supply efficient on-demand digitization of all types of library materials, with a special emphasis on end-user accessibility. As the head of the CA Department, the incumbent is responsible for overseeing a dynamic team currently consisting of about 21 professional and support staff, and approximately seventy student assistants that seamlessly provide patron-facing content services, including circulation, course reserves, print and digital resource sharing, multimedia services, digitization on demand, and accessibility services. Representing PUL, the position engages with national and international resource sharing consortia, and the strategic planning of their mutually beneficial operations for enhanced discovery and optimized access to their vast collective collection, advocating for services and promoting PUL’s standing within the academic community. The collaboration also entails close partnership with key Library and campus stakeholders, including the Office of Information Technology, Office of General Counsel, McGraw Center for Teaching and Learning, and the Office of Disability Services.
