Change is Good: New and Emerging Positions at Rowan University Libraries

Rowan University achieved the R3 Carnegie Classification in 2013 resulting in significant changes in strategic hires and investment of funds to support its newfound research mission. The institution has seen rapid growth as well from about 14000 students in 2013 to 18000 students in 2018. Forty new tenure-track faculty will begin in Fall 2018 and the university just announced a $5 million research fund as one such initiative to support and further research for its faculty and researchers. The Campbell Library at the Glassboro campus, as a result, has a tremendous opportunity to align its efforts and services to meet the growing research needs of its faculty and students. In the last few years, the library was successfully able to request new positions to make few strategic hires in the areas of digital scholarship, collections management, scholarly communication and data curation, and a liaison to the science departments. In FY 2019, our university library has received a retirement announcement for six “boomers” to be accomplished by December 31, 2018. With these retirements comes an opportunity to re-examine how the library accomplishes day-to-day operations and workflows.
Building Relationships for Success and Satisfaction: a Workshop

Work relationships exist in many forms, and at many levels: from mentors, colleagues, staff, and supervisors — to committees and consortia. There are people we work closely with, and those we may never meet in person. There are relationships we seek out, and those that find us. There are relationships that can help propel our careers, and ones that can hold us back. How do we identify, assess, and categorize our professional relationships? How do we actively seek out and cultivate those that are beneficial? Working through creative and reflective prompts, participants will develop a clearer understanding of all types of work relationships, map their own networks, and consider how shape and configuration may impact success and satisfaction. Through discussion and activities, we will work together to identify new relationships and opportunities, and practice positive networking behaviors.
