The Syracuse University Libraries invites applications from collaborative individuals to join our staff in the role of Social Sciences and Humanities Librarian. This position will be a fantastic opportunity for someone who is energized by building relationships with faculty and students at a research university and who also wants to make a difference in developing a diverse library collection.
The Social Science and Humanities Librarian will serve as the liaison to select departments, including history, religion, philosophy, languages, African American Studies, women’s and gender studies, and interdisciplinary degree programs in identity and diaspora studies. As one of sixteen liaison librarians in the Department of Research and Scholarship (DRS), the Librarian provides personalized research assistance by appointment, delivers subject-specific information literacy instruction, and performs subject-specific collection development selection. Additionally, the Librarian is part of the Collections Team in DRS and focuses on increasing our collections holdings from diverse voices across disciplines and subjects.
Qualifications
MLS (ALA-accredited) or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Minimum one (1) or more years of professional experience as a librarian required.
Reference and instruction experience, preferably in an academic library environment required.
Demonstrated commitment to support and contribute to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment required.
At least one year serving a patron population focused on social sciences or the humanities.
Proficiency in one or more language(s) beyond English.
Experience with selecting material for a library collection
