Collection Development and Analysis Librarian — Syracuse, NY

Details or description

The Syracuse University Libraries invites applications from collaborative individuals to join our staff in the role of Collection Development and Analysis Librarian (CDAL). This position will be a great growth opportunity for an early-career librarian with some experience selecting or acquiring collections resources who wants to become immersed in a full-time collection development role in an academic library.

The CDAL is on the Collections Team, one of four teams in the Department of Research and Scholarship which houses the liaison librarians and functional specialist librarians for research data services, open scholarship, and collection development. Working with other department members, the CDAL builds the Libraries’ collections in alignment with the University’s academic, research, and creative needs. This includes collection development activities such as developing and leading initiatives to gather feedback from users; reviewing and analyzing usage and other data sources to make informed collections recommendations; staying abreast of new products and publishing trends; negotiating favorable prices and licensing terms for e-resources; and making informed proposals to select new resource packages or adopt new collection strategies. This position has primary responsibility for databases and streaming media and works closely with the collection development librarians responsible for journals and monographs, providing ample opportunities for peer support.

Qualifications

  • MLS (ALA-accredited) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two to five years of professional experience as a librarian.
  • One year collection development or library acquisition experience working with multiple resource types and licensing models.

The Syracuse University Libraries has a librarian promotion and permanent status process, providing a peer support and evaluation structure to encourage professional development and engagement.
