Position Summary:
The Reference Librarian interacts extensively with students, faculty and members of the public as well as the other staff members of the library. These relationships emphasize the public service nature of the library and, therefore, demand of the Reference Librarian a high degree of courtesy, cooperation and genuine interest in assisting others in the pursuit of learning and information literacy. The incumbent is expected to collaborate with academic and student services departments to contribute to attracting and retaining students.
Incumbents must possess proven ability to effectively work with a culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and student. They are expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams etc.)
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in in Library Science with one (1) or more years of relevant experience working in a Library.
Successful Candidate must have or must possess:
Knowledge of library services
Ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a higher education setting.
Familiarity with current trends in librarianship.
Experience with arranging archival materials.
Example of Job Duties:
Under the direction of the Director of Library Services, the Reference Librarian performs a broad range of professional responsibilities of librarianship in the library of a Community College providing library services to students, faculty, staff and citizens of the communities served by the College. The Reference Librarian’s main function encompasses a broad-spectrum including reference services via in-person, phone, and online chat; collection development; assisting in interlibrary loan; circulation management; troubleshooting basic IT questions; and individualized instruction with library resources.

Salary:
$38.50 hourly.
