Cornell University Library (CUL) seeks an early career Rare Materials Cataloger to support the university’s mission in teaching, research, and knowledge creation. Within CUL’s collaborative and supportive culture, the Rare Materials Cataloger will work on bibliographic description for materials reflecting all of the collecting areas of the Division of Rare and Manuscript Collections, featuring materials originating from across the globe over several centuries. Particular strengths include American and African American history and culture, European history and culture, human sexuality, contemporary music, science, natural history, technology, and more. The Rare Materials Cataloger will bring focus and care to bibliographic and authority data for rare materials, while ensuring diversity and inclusion are guiding factors in our metadata practices.
The Rare Materials Cataloger, an employee of Library Technical Services, is embedded within the Division of Rare and Manuscript Collections. As such, they work on the Cornell campus in a collaborative environment and will benefit from both focused training as well as professional development provided to the cohort of catalogers at Cornell University Library.
The Rare Materials Cataloger will have the support to actively participate in local, national and international discussions relating to the access, retrieval, description, and management of library resources; further, the Rare Materials Cataloger will apply these discussions to CUL’s research and development efforts.

Required Qualifications
• Master’s degree in any field received before start date in the position
• Cataloging experience (including coursework and/or internships); familiarity with RDA, AACR2, MARC bibliographic format
• Reading knowledge of at least one language in addition to English
• Demonstrated interest in and commitment to cultivating an environment of diversity and inclusion
• Knowledge of ways that minoritized groups have been marginalized through the creation and use of library metadata
• Knowledge of or strong interest in the description of and access to rare, unique, and historically significant cultural materials
• Demonstrated aptitude for creating and working with authority data (e.g. Library of Congress Authorities, Getty vocabularies, ORCID, ISNI, etc.)
• Strong service orientation and interest in library users’ values and needs
• Excellent communication, project management and analytic skills, including the ability to work well in a team-based environment
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience cataloging rare materials according to PCC, DCRM and other community guidelines in a research library or similar setting
• Working knowledge of a Romance or Germanic language
Academic Rank and Salary: The anticipated academic rank for this position is Assistant Librarian, with an expected salary range of $55,000-$57,500.

This position is located in Ithaca, New York, and the work will performed on the Ithaca campus. Relocation assistance may be provided. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
