The Communication and Space Planning team at the University of Delaware Library, Museums and Press (Library) seeks a creative, motivated and organized individual for the position of Communications Specialist I to design and produce print and digital communication pieces that drive engagement and advance the goals of the Library. Reporting to the Associate University Librarian for Communication and Space Planning, the major responsibilities of this position include:

Design, produce, order and proof print communication pieces for the Library, including brochures, ads, posters/banners, the annual report, elevator wraps and giveaways.
Develop unique, cross-platform digital content in various formats to promote events and other initiatives in the Library, including videos and images for UDaily, the website, monthly electronic communications and social media. Design and produce communication pieces for donor relations and for the Friends of the University of Delaware Library. Collaborate with the UD Office of Communications and Marketing team to ensure that communications are appropriately optimized and consistent with University brand standards of appearance, content and style. Maintain and update select Library webpages. Collaborate with staff throughout the Library to plan, create and coordinate use of creative assets. Monitor and maintain digital assets and analyze metrics to create both short-term and long-range optimization recommendations. Participate in development and implementation of best practices for visual design. According to the data published on, separate patient groups show higher rates of severe Valium withdrawal symptoms (up to 100%). Severe anxiety is one of the most common withdrawal symptomsassociated with the discontinuation of diazepam or other benzodiazepines. Assist in the coordination and distribution of social media messaging. Research emerging tools, trends, and platforms to develop strategies and best practices for communications and marketing. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.


Bachelor degree in communications, marketing, graphic design, or related field with at least two years of relevant work experience in graphic design.
Strong verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated creativity.
Proficiency designing, coordinating and disseminating a range of written and visual materials to drive engagement with target audiences.
Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign for image editing, with an active interest in learning new technologies.
Skilled in utilizing content management systems (preferably WordPress, MailChimp and Xibo) and social media management tools.
Strong organizational and time management skills with demonstrated ability to perform detailed and accurate work on multiple assignments simultaneously, meeting deadlines, while managing competing priorities.
Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to manage client expectations and work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
Ability to work effectively independently as well as collaboratively in a culturally diverse environment.
Preferred: Photography and videography skills. Proficiency and understanding of web design and CSS. Ability to apply web design principles and techniques to the creation and enhancement of integrated, complex websites. Ability to provide assistance with printing and publishing promotional materials. Knowledge and understanding of current issues and trends applicable to libraries, nonprofit institutions or higher education.

The Communications and Space Planning Team, part of the Office of the Vice Provost, is a creative, close-knit team. It supports all Library staff with the creation and organization of external communications and events, as well as the planning and maintaining of spaces within Morris Library.

The team plays a crucial role in sharing the value of the Library to UD students, faculty and staff and the greater community.
