Cornell University Academic Position Announcement:
Associate University Librarian
Reporting directly to the University Librarian and serving as members of the Library Executive Group (LEG), Associate University Librarians (AULs) contribute vision and leadership to the development and management of designated library collections, services and spaces to support the evolving needs of the Cornell community. Each AUL supervises library directors and unit heads as well as providing overall guidance to academic librarians and staff members in libraries on the Ithaca campus and beyond.
In a work environment where cross-unit collaboration is expected, AULs work closely with each other, with the Senior Director for Library Finance and Administration, and with the University Librarian to set directions and priorities for the library, to sponsor projects and initiatives, and to develop partnership programs within and beyond Cornell.
AULs represent Cornell University Library (CUL) to the campus, higher education, and national and international library communities through engagement, presentations, and publications, thereby enhancing CUL’s reputation as a leading research library for the 21st century. AULs strengthen library relationships with deans, vice-provosts and other administrators as well as faculty, students and staff involved in academic services throughout the university.

Supervising a team of over 40 people, the successful individual, building on their unique skills and experience, will have the opportunity to work with the University Librarian and other members of the Library Executive Group (LEG) to define the responsibilities of the position. All qualified candidates are invited to apply. However, particular emphasis will be placed on the candidates’ abilities to supervise personnel and support strategic initiatives in information technology and digital research, including our linked data initiative and development/implementation of the open source library services platform folio.
– Supervises the directors or managers of services provided by the following units:
• IT Operations
• IT Project Management
• Web Programming
• Web Experience & Business Administration
• Digital Lifecycle Services
• Land Grant IT
• Scholarly Communications
– Provides leadership in developing and evaluating IT policies and programs in alignment with strategic priorities;
– Partners with IT leadership across campus and engages with high-level campus initiatives;
– Facilitates a collaborative and open process to explore, develop, implement, and refine innovative service models;
– Strategically engages with consortial partnerships and regional, state, national and international organizations;
– Fosters new partnerships in support of the Library’s goal to expand its reach through public engagement;
– Manages and develops financial, physical and human resources to advance the library’s strategic vision;
– Provides professional development opportunities for academic librarians and staff members;
– Ensures that principles of inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility are fully integrated into the work of IT.
• Master’s degree or higher in library or information science or other relevant discipline;
• Minimum five years of relevant work experience with increasing responsibility;
• Demonstrated leadership experience and evidence of flexibility and initiative and the ability to incorporate academic library trends in a rapidly changing environment;
• Proven ability to engage library staff in planning and delivery of innovative user-centered services;
• Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team;
• Proven ability to inspire, build trust, lead organizational change, foster innovation, and empower staff growth;
• Proven track record for building strong internal and external relationships;
• Proven ability to cultivate an environment of diversity and inclusion;
• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written skills for communicating complex issues and perspectives to a wide range of constituencies
• Experience in financial management, success in grant writing and seeking new sources of funding;
• Strong record of scholarly engagement and professional service, including presentations, publications, and service to regional and/or national-level organizations.

The anticipated salary range for this position will be $140,000 to $160,000, dependent on experience.
