Plan, implement, and oversee a multi-year revision of audiovisual and media services for the Law School. Manage day to day operations for audio/visual and media services to support Law School classes and events. Provide direction for media services initiatives and assist with updates to content for websites, such as the library websites and the institutional repository.
Hire, discipline, train, evaluate and schedule the staff and student workers. Oversee and provide guidance to staff who hire, discipline, train, evaluate, and schedule student workers. Formulate, update, and implement policies and procedures. Maintain and update manual for all areas of oversight. Initiate communication about spheres of oversight both within and outside the Library, as appropriate.
Prepare reports. Collect and analyze appropriate statistics to measure the use and growth of services. Address personnel issues with HR and/or the Associate Dean for Library Services. Suggest improvements and changes to workflows. Foster a workplace of open, timely communication. Keep informed of administrative policies and procedures. Develop and maintain effective relationships with the educational technology and media services groups within and outside the University.
Maintain inventory of equipment in all media ready spaces within the Law School. Compile usage statistics. Maintain operations manuals. Collaborate with the Associate Dean for Library Services regarding Law School-wide multimedia needs.
Work with the media services team, Associate Dean for Library Services, and other stakeholders on strategic plans for classroom and event spaces. Create relationships with vendors and arrange for proposals, as needed. Create and provide details for annual budgets and long-term budget planning. Directly oversee the small equipment budget for the department. Develop relationships with internal stakeholders to identify and resolve needs.
Devise support plans for ever-expanding services, including developing new instructional and media services spaces. Serve on committees or task forces at the Law School or the University, as needed. Advise on classroom and media services spaces on other campuses, as requested.
Understand the considerations and support the needs of those with disabilities in classroom and event settings.
Educational Tech Duties
Identify, design, and effectively incorporate technology plans, tools, and programs into the law school’s learning environment.
Instruct both teaching staff and students in the use of technology-based learning tools, as needed.
Continuously develop and maintain knowledge of educational technologies and their application in the law school classroom. Ensure staff also participate in relevant educational technology trainings to develop and maintain their skills.
As requested, research and advise on educational technologies, including software and hardware, necessary for instruction in the physical and virtual online classroom.
Develop and maintain an understanding of relevant privacy laws and policies in an educational setting. Understand how these privacy laws and policies are implicated when considering implementation of various educational technologies.
Maintain the audiovisual appointments calendar for the Law School. Respond to inquiries from faculty, staff, and students in a timely fashion. Regularly meet with Special Events on scheduling changes. Create and maintain training and instructional materials related to media services and classroom support.
Set up equipment in classrooms (and other spaces throughout the campus), including cameras, microphones, mixers, computers, and any other external appliances to support presentations or record events.
Provide direct technical support to faculty, staff, and students in the use of multimedia. Recommend appropriate choices of technology to be used depending on the need. Oversee the training and directing of student assistant camera operators.
Maintain and service equipment in classrooms and event spaces. Troubleshoot issues and communicate with outside vendors, as needed. Perform installation of projectors, computers, and other equipment in classroom and media services spaces.
Act as one of the school administrators for Canvas. Upload videos and understand functionality to support users. Regularly communicate with other school administrators at the Law School and the University on Canvas-related issues, updates, and training.
Support digital initiatives for the Library. Assist with exam administration and other IT projects, as needed. Perform other duties as assigned.
Collaborate with other departments, including IT, to provide support for law school class and event needs.
Makes independent decisions about workflow and personal work schedule. Consults with the Associate Dean for Library Services about priorities, overall direction and specific projects and activities not part of the routine daily assignment cycle. Serves over 1000 students and 90 or more full-time and adjunct faculty. Communicates with Special Events, ITS, Communications, HR, and Facilities staff. 18 spaces in the Law School are media ready; three of those spaces have built-in recording equipment; in other spaces, recording equipment is assembled as needed.
Experience & Educational Background:
Significant experience managing a department is required. Demonstrated experience with educational technologies and the learning environment is required. Experience in a higher education setting is desired. Demonstrated experience with planning and budgeting is desired. Previous experience in a customer service role is required. Multimedia certification (or similar) is required. Experience with some aspect of video production or multimedia support is required. Experience in audio/video editing and managing a streaming server is required.
