Assistant Professor:

Supports a college library through providing in-depth consultation with students and faculty and collaboration for the ongoing improvement of instructional programs and practices. Pursues an active scholarly agenda, performs supervisory duties, and participates in college-and university-wide programs and committees as assigned.

The Kurt R. Schmeller Library at Queensborough Community College, CUNY, seeks an Instructor or Assistant Professor – Web Services/Digital Content Librarian. The successful candidate, in conjunction with Information Technology, will be responsible for updating the library website, will do usability testing, will serve at the reference desk, teach in our information literacy instruction program, do collection development and perform other duties as assigned.


All titles require a Master’s in Library Science (MLS), Master’s in Library Information Studies (MLIS), or closely related discipline from an ALA-accredited institution. Also required is the ability to work with others for the good of the institution.

For appointment as Assistant Professor, a second graduate degree is required.

The successful candidate must:

– Have an MLS or equivalent from an ALA accredited institution

– Know HTML5, CSS3, Javascript

– Be proficient in website usability testing

Also required are interest in productive scholarship or creative achievement and the ability work and communicate collaboratively with colleagues to ensure a collegial working atmosphere and to support the mission of the college and the department.

Strong preferences include:

– Experience in an academic library environment

– Experience in reference and instruction.

– Experience working with LibGuides
