Teacher Librarian – South Seneca Middle and High Schools’ Library – Ovid, NY

Librarian and Teacher needed for the South Seneca Middle and High Schools’ library, effective December 5, 2014.

Our learning community needs:
A librarian who sees the inherent humanity and potential in each adolescent.
A librarian eager to collaborate, to find, to solve, to persevere, and to laugh with students and faculty alike.
A librarian who embraces technology as a core part of the profession.
A librarian who wants to be trained by our students.

Our library:
Learn. Think. Make. Be the genius at your library.
This is the motto which students developed for our library and it speaks volumes of what they expect out of the library program and the librarian. Our small 6-12 grade student community has fewer than 500 hundred members, all of whom love and respect the library, which acts as a physical and intellectual bridge between the Middle and High Schools.
The library has been instrumental in many of the district initiatives in the past few years including:
• Google Apps for Education integration
• 1 to 1 tablet deployment and curricular integration
• Digital Citizenship education for EVERY student

Our district:
The South Seneca Central School District offices and our library are in a beautiful collegiate building on a sprawling tree lined campus in Ovid, NY. Ovid is a small agricultural community nestled at the northern end between Cayuga and Seneca lakes. We are 27 miles north of Ithaca, 16 miles south of Geneva, in the heart of wine, dairy, and music country.
Our school population is economically diverse with around 50% of our students qualifying for free or reduced lunches. Any librarian to this fantastic group of students needs to appreciate and embrace cultural and economic diversity and be sensitive to the needs of our ethnic, racial and sexual minorities.
We know that mid-year appointments are a challenge for recruiters and job seekers alike. It is our hope that the new librarian be able to start as soon after December 5th as possible. Please send a meaningful cover letter, resume, and references to Stephen Parker Zielinski, Superintendent, 7263 Main St, Ovid, NY 14521, szielinski@southseneca.org.
