Systems and Educational Technology Liaison, Wheaton College – Norton, Massachusetts

The Systems and Educational Technology Liaison is tasked with support of current systems and works on projects to deliver new services to better support a vibrant and dynamic learning environment. In this role, the liaison provides support for faculty, students, and Wallace Library staff by developing and maintaining networked applications for teaching, learning, and research at Wheaton College. The liaison administers, maintains, and supports all modules of the library’s WorldShare Management System; is the primary contact for problem resolution; and, as needed, will function as the library’s representative to regional and national user groups. In addition, the liaison is charged with supporting, maintaining, developing, and installing specialized library applications and networked academic technology, either individually or as part of a group, including: interlibrary loan software (OCLC’s Tipasa), electronic reserves software (DocuTek), streaming media services, learning management systems (e.g. Moodle), and social software (e.g. blogs, wikis, podcasting, etc.). The liaison serves as an instructional technology specialist, an educator, and a frequent point of contact for library staff, and faculty. The liaison facilitates the use of technology in teaching, learning, and scholarship for staff and faculty, provides professional development opportunities, and encourages and supports their use of technology in the classroom. Under the direction of the Director of Research and Instruction, the liaison explores, introduces, and implements strategies and tools to make best use of technology in teaching. The liaison also actively engages with the College’s technology-enhanced teaching and learning initiatives.

The Systems and Educational Technology Liaison serves in the Research and Instruction (R&I) Department, which is responsible for the direct support of teaching, learning, and research, particularly as they are enhanced by technology and the use of library and other information resources. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality, robust systems that facilitate search, discovery, and delivery of library services and resources to the entire Wheaton community.

– Master’s degree with studies and/or experience in Library or in Information Technology required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
– Demonstrated experience in the use of and/or support of enterprise learning management systems required.
– Demonstrated effective use of blogs, wikis, and other web content management systems.
– Fluency with a broad range of instructional technologies, various forms of new media, and relevant subject-specific tools.
– Demonstrated effective use of Online Collaboration Tools (video conferencing, Google Docs, etc.).
– Demonstrated proficiency with Macintosh and Windows computer environments and peripherals and office productivity tools.
– Experience in supporting and troubleshooting common instructional technology tools such as course management systems, bibliographic management software, etc.
– Varied experience with academic software applications and systems.
– Experience in programming, including proficiency with open standard web programming technologies, such as HTML, PHP, XML, and CSS.
– Experience in supporting library specific software, e.g. OCLC WMS, Tipasa, Subjects Plus, GOBI and library specific hardware (e.g. label printers, production scanners etc.).
– Experience supporting web-based content management systems and image-based or text-based digital repositories (ContentDM, MDID, Omeka, Digital Commons, DSpace, Fedora, etc.).
– Familiarity with library technology standards and protocols such as RDA, FRBR, OAI/PHM.
– Familiarity with EZProxy or III WAM.
– Working knowledge of the database technologies such as MySQL, Microsoft Access or FileMaker used to store, manipulate, and query structured data.
– Prior experience in usability testing and systems implementation.

– Knowledge of current and recent industry trends in search, discovery, and delivery systems, and an understanding of the needs of different user communities and user search behavior in academic library settings and in arena of information seeking and use.
