The Princeton University Library seeks an accomplished, energetic, and highly motivated individual for the Scholarly Communications Office Coordinator position. The position provides critical support for the Library’s Scholarly Communications Office (SCO) and the management and coordination of the Open Access Repository project. The SCO was formed in 2014 to implement Princeton University’s Open Access Policy and lead campus-wide initiatives to open, share and preserve Princeton’s scholarship. The SCO provides many services to the campus related to open access, copyright, and data management, including managing the Open Access Repository (OAR), which archives faculty publications included under the University’s Open Access Policy, and makes publicly available.This position is a key member of a growing team librarians, library staff and IT professionals, with primary responsibility for providing education, training, and service to the University regarding scholarly communication.
Reporting to the Scholarly Communications Librarian, the SCO Coordinator:
• Oversees and organizes the day-to-day operation of the Open Access Repository (OAR) and the Symplectic Elements workflow management system.
• Trains library and academic department and program staff who are designated to work on depositing articles into the OAR and coordinates their work for this process.
• Hires, trains and supervises student assistants in the article deposition process; manages their schedules and projects and ensures work quality.
• Works with University IT staff to ensure proper operation and upgrades for both systems, provides improvement feedback, and reports problems.
• Assists the Scholarly Communications Librarian in SCO and OAR education and outreach to students, faculty and staff throughout campus; coordinates educational workshops and promotional events, and develops promotional materials.
• Manages office communication and administration, including communication with academic departments and research offices regarding Princeton’s Open Access Policy and federal funding agencies’ public access policy compliance, and communication with vendors and publishers.
• Maintains statistics; produces periodic and ad hoc reports as needed on the SCO and OAR operation.
• Maintains the SCO website and email box and responds to questions.
• Minimum associate or other 2-year degree.
• Experience working in an academic environment and familiarity with the research process.
• Excellent ability to train, supervise, assign work, and review the work of others.
• Excellent oral/written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Proven, successful ability to work independently, prioritize and be highly productive.
• Excellent project organization, problem solving and decision making skills.
• Ability to prepare reports and maintain accurate records; excellent attention to detail.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of programs (PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Outlook)
• Proven, successful ability to understand and follow moderately complex oral and written instructions.
• Proven ability to work effectively with faculty, students, academic administrative staff, IT, and Library professionals and staff.
• Working knowledge of communication applications, including email, chat, and other web based applications.
• Familiarity with the scholarly communication lifecycle, open access, and copyright.
• Good aptitude and experience searching information in systems such as Web of Science and Scopus.
• Knowledge of web page creation and maintenance.
• Bachelor’s Degree or higher.
