Objective:

The NYU Library in Abu Dhabi invites applications for a new position that combines opportunities in technical and research services in an innovative, dynamic, and forward-looking setting. Reporting to the NYU-Abu Dhabi Library Director, the incumbent’s responsibilities center on administering the Library’s acquisitions program and contributing to copy- and original cataloging for its collections.

Key responsibilities:

The position oversees routine acquisitions of library materials, establishing priorities and deadlines, reviewing workflow as needed and managing library assistants engaged in this work; may catalog titles sent directly to Abu Dhabi; assesses vendor performance; helps with catalog maintenance; coordinates ILS report requests; ensures that work conforms to standards and best practices coordinated with the Knowledge Access and Resource Management Services Department at NYU-New York. Additionally, the position contributes to bibliographic instruction, information desk services, and direct research assistance for library users.

Requirements:

•ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent
•Academic background in subject matter relevant to the curriculum
•Para-professional or professional experience in acquisitions and/or cataloging
•Familiarity with current practices, new technologies, and trends in academic libraries
•Working knowledge of the structure and operation of integrated library systems
•Demonstrated ability interpreting bibliographic records
•Strong analytical and problem solving skills
•Experience creating/maintaining simple databases and complex spreadsheets
•Excellent English-language communication skills
•Ability to establish positive long-distance working relationships with NYU Libraries in New York and to work collegially within a small, highly collaborative local unit
•Demonstrated history of flexibility, creativity, and strong customer service commitment

Preferred Attributes:

•Academic library experience
•Competence in a language in addition to English
•Academic background in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science or Literature (including Comparative Literature)
