Organize, coordinate, administer, and assess comprehensive reference, research, and referral services in a dynamic, team-based, client-centered environment supported by advanced library technology; provide frontline supervision of the Reference Services desk, local resource development, evening/weekend services, and the Graduate Center’s satellite operation; provide instructional and reference support for curricular and scholarly endeavors including online instruction; exert leadership in developing, planning, and implementing innovative services, collections, and programs that both anticipate and respond to the complex technological and information needs of a diverse population.
Specific key functions include:
Supervising 4 full-time and 6 part-time librarians in both the Mortola Library (Pleasantville) and Graduate Center Library (White Plains)
Actively working with the Associate University Librarian, Westchester in a continuing dialogue to coordinate, develop, promote, and implement the information, space, and technological needs of the library
Coordinating locally based collection development efforts and working closely with the Assistant University Librarian for Collection Development on library-wide collection issues, policies, and projects to ensure consistency and quality of the collections, priorities, and intensity levels, selection/de-selection of materials, and the and the development of the library’s material and electronic resources
Participates/leads relevant library committees and task forces. Participates in other University committees as assigned
Extensive knowledge, skills, and abilities utilizing print and electronic information resources in a demand driven environment
Demonstrated understanding of technology (theoretical and hands-on) and its applications in the library environment
3-5 years of progressive experience in academic library information services
Demonstrated supervisory, organizational, and management skills
Commitment to the principles of collegiality, user-centered service, assessment, and information literacy
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of the latest trends in library and information resource development and their implementation and assessment
Base hours are Monday-Friday 9:30A-5:30P but the position will require working some evening and weekend shifts as needed at both the Mortola Library (Pleasantville) and the Graduate Center Library (White Plains). Occasional trips to New York City campus for collaboration with counterparts.
