<p><span style="font-family: tahoma,sans-serif; font-size: large;">Multnomah County Library (MCL) is seeking candidates for a part-time, 20 hours per week position as a Teen Librarian at the St. Johns Library. This position will focus on the need for specific outreach and program development targeted to attract teens in the African and African-American communities. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: tahoma,sans-serif; font-size: large;">This position performs the vital tasks of matching patrons’ personal, educational and recreational needs with appropriate information and resources, and fostering literacy in youth, particularly teens, families, and educators. Successful candidates will have excellent interpersonal, organizational, leadership and communication skills to help the library develop innovative services for the 21st century. The best candidates will be able to provide culturally appropriate services to teens and families, particularly in the African and African-American communities, in addition to serving all patrons.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: tahoma,sans-serif; font-size: large;">No experience is required; however, two years of professional youth librarian experience, particularly serving teens is desirable. Experience planning, preparing and implementing culturally sensitive programs (including  storytimes) that are of interest to teens and adults working with youth is preferred.  Requires advanced knowledge of and experience working with the African-American community.  This would be demonstrated by knowledge of the traditions, values, and customs of the community being served as well as the ability to identify specific examples of experience working directly with individuals and families who identify with the African-American community<i>.</i></span></p>

Supports a college library through providing in-depth consultation with students and faculty and collaboration for the ongoing improvement of instructional programs and practices. Pursues an active scholarly agenda, performs supervisory duties, and participates in college-and university-wide programs and committees as assigned.</p>

<p>Queensborough Community College, CUNY, offers associates degrees and certificate programs in a variety of disciplines. The college is committed to academic excellence, innovative pedagogy, and valuing the cultural diversity of our community. Located on a park-like setting in eastern Queens, the college also enjoys the opportunities offered as part of the City University of New York. The library has recently undergone substantial renovations in order to support collaborative learning and attention to the needs of community college students. The library faculty consists of thirteen full-time professionals and six part- time faculty members. <p>Duties:<br />
- Offer face-to-face and online course related information literacy instruction, especially for students enrolled in science courses.<br />
- Develop online learning tools specifically for students in the sciences who need to learn to search and evaluate a variety of disciplinary sources.<br />
- Identify and select appropriate print and electronic materials in the sciences for the library&#8217;s collection.<br />
- Use innovative pedagogy to help departments meet the information literacy components of Pathways, the new CUNY undergraduate core.<br />
- Take a leadership role in the library&#8217;s effort to assess our contribution to student learning and participate in using the data to develop new initiatives.<br />
- Provide face-to-face and online reference service. Hours may include day, evening and weekends.<br />
- Represent the library on college and university committees.<br />
- Perform related duties as assigned.</p>
<p>Tenure track faculty must meet the publication and service requirements for tenure and promotion.</p>
<p>QUALIFICATIONS<br />
All titles require a Master&#8217;s in Library Science (MLS), Master&#8217;s in Library Information Studies (MLIS), or closely related discipline from an ALA-accredited institution. Also required is the ability to work with others for the good of the institution.</p>
<p>For appointment as Assistant Professor, a second graduate degree in a subject area or a Ph.D is required.</p>
<p>Required: Undergraduate or graduate degree or substantial coursework in the natural or physical sciences. Experience working with students and faculty in the sciences. Experience working with the databases in the sciences.</p>
<p>Candidates for appointment as an Assistant Professor must also have teaching and reference services experience; one or more years of related professional work experience, preferably in an academic library; excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills; a commitment to innovative and effective user-centered services; knowledge of current trends in innovative pedagogy, assessment of library services and information technology; and superior oral and written communication skills.</p>
<p>Preferred: The successful candidate will show evidence of productive teamwork, creativity, initiative, flexibility and ability to work with diverse populations.</p>
