Engaging Teaching & Learning with Social Media, ACRL/NY, June 19, Mercy College, Manhattan Campus

ACRL/NY First Year Experience (FYE) & Information Literacy/Instruction (IL) 6/19/2015 Meeting

Please join us for the upcoming members-only joint meeting of the ACRL/NY FYE & IL Discussion Groups. Our topic will be:

“Engaging Teaching & Learning with Social Media: Information Literacy Strategies for Librarians #Teaching #Learning #SocialMedia #InfoLit #Strategies4Librarians”

Undergraduates engage with social media everyday. Building on the knowledge base of social media skill sets already familiar to them, librarians can use those competencies to build the bridge to their practical application in research methodologies. In this session we will have a roundtable discussion on ways in which we can teach information literacy concepts through the grounding of the hashtag terminology and structure. Key here is the potential to enrich teaching and learning by enabling students to map their own understanding of information organization through their use of hashtags to more conventional subject headings and thesauri used in academic research.
