Emerging Technologies Librarian, Metropolitan College of New York

Position Description

MCNY seeks an Emerging Technologies Librarian (ETL) provide innovative leadership in the use of technology for its library.  The librarian will work closely with the library director to create, improve and sustain services for the College’s students, faculty and staff.  He/she will also work closely with the reference librarian, technical services librarian and library staff to provide day-to-day services to the MCNY community.

Job Duties

Major responsibilities include exploring, developing, promoting, and assessing innovative online tools including social networking and other services targeting students; creating and implementing online learning modules to support the library’s information literacy, reference, and web-based learning programs; providing face to face and virtual reference services; conducting information literacy sessions in Manhattan and at the Bronx Extension Center; consulting with students and faculty on research projects, methods, and best practices; assisting with collection development and acquisitions; developing and maintaining subject and policy guides; and representing the library on college and university committees.

Qualifications

ALA accredited Masters degree in Library/Information Science plus 3-5 years library experience.  Must demonstrate aptitude for developing and maintaining user-centered documentation.  Experience with HTMS,CSS, Javascript, a scripting language, and database preferred.  Must be able to take initiative; be flexible; work independently and collaboratively, and work some evenings and weekends.  Strong candidates will include those having experience with content management systems, e.g., LibGuides, Drupal, Moodle; library management system, e.g., Sirsi, Koha, Innovative; non-for-profit and/or higher education; project experience with a team implementation; graphic design; and experience with library consortia.
